The Parent Practice offers courses for teachers to give them new ways to be positive, firm and consistent with their students. We offer practical strategies for encouraging cooperation, confidence, consideration, motivation and self-reliance in children.
Teachers want to help children do and be their best but sometimes it can be hard to get on with doing the job of teaching because children may be being uncooperative, disruptive or unmotivated. Sometimes students may be distracting themselves and others, they may be playing the clown or not attending to the lesson, they may not be doing the best work that the teacher knows they are capable of or they may not be following instructions. Sometimes children have difficulties interacting appropriately with their peers. Occasionally teachers may encounter anger and aggression in a student. More commonly teachers will meet frustration and helplessness in a pupil which results in lack of effort and giving up.
Our tried and tested techniques enable teachers to create a culture in their classrooms of positive discipline which leads to happy, motivated and cooperative children. These strategies help teachers to encourage children to do their best, to persevere, to not be afraid of taking risks, to look for solutions and to be respectful of their teachers and peers.
The Parent Practice design inset trainings for teachers where we look at the kind of issues faced in your school, why children are behaving the way they are, and what teachers can do differently to produce different results. We look at the positive and effective practices already being used by teachers and capitalise on these, adding some new strategies or refining existing ones to produce positive learning and behaviour outcomes.
Some areas covered in our programmes:
- New targeted ways of using praise that are very effective to create positive teacher/pupil relationships, build self esteem and encourage good behaviours.
- Rules in the classroom and how these can be more effectively implemented to ensure cooperation and foster motivation.
- Using reward systems to the best effect.
- Our tried and tested 3 stage method for giving instructions to maximise cooperation.
- Helping teachers understand the causes of inappropriate behaviour and give strategies for dealing with it.
Our facilitators trained at The New Learning Centre run by Noël Janis-Norton, author, teacher and behaviour and learning expert. We have many years of experience working in classroom settings with children with learning difficulties and behavioural issues.
We would be happy to discuss a training that we could design for your school. We can design half day, whole day or twilight sessions to suit you.
Examples of some training sessions we have run:
"Increasing Co-operation and Motivation in the Classroom".
"Dealing Effectively with Mistakes and Misbehaviour".
Schools we have worked with include Knowl Hill School a special needs school, St.Michael's Church of England School, The Roche School and Dulwich College Prep School.
We have also welcomed teachers from Broomwood Hall School, Mousehouse Nursery School, The Merlin, Finton House, Honeywell School, Fulham Prep and Belleville School onto programmes at our centres.
